Internship

The Russia Programme of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) invites motivated students who have completed at least their first year of study to apply for an internship. We are looking for candidates passionate about strengthening civil society and democracy in Russia and advancing independent research and political education.

The Russia Programme has been based in Riga, Latvia since 2024, following FES’s designation as an “undesirable organisation” by the Russian Ministry of Justice in 2022.

Requirements for candidates at the FES Russia Programme:

  • Currently pursuing studies in communication, journalism, sociology, political science or a related field
  • Very good written and spoken English; knowledge of Russian is an advantage
  • Excellent command of German, including proofreading and editing texts
  • Strong written communication skills, including attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Availability for a 3-month internship

Applicants are asked to provide the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter
  • Preferred internship period and dates

For details about potential payments during the internship in Riga, please see this website.
Successful candidates are responsible for all costs, including transport (such as the flight to Riga) and accommodation. We therefore strongly recommend that, if necessary, applicants seek funding in good time (please note: double funding is not permitted).

Please send your application in English to daila.krakte (at) fes.de

We are looking to fill this internship position as soon as possible. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the position will remain open until filled. We also expect to offer additional internship opportunities in the future.
